Exquisite Japanese cuisine and an authentic traditional atmosphere
Ushered into an over-a-century-old elegant, traditional premise, you are welcomed with a spacious Japanese garden that changes its hues over the four seasons. While appreciating its beautiful landscape in your room, you are served with various authentic seasonal Japanese delicacies. We hope you will fully enjoy a serene, tranquil and relaxing moment that only we can offer.
Our founder Kauemon Yano established a candle and oil shop called "Iseka Shoten" in the late Edo Period (the late 18th century). He served as a designated merchant for the Gifu magistrate’s office of the Tokugawa Shogunate and was reputed as one of the ten eminent figures of Gifu-machi at the end of the Edo Period.
Then, the fourth generation Yano, known for his elegant artistic taste, built a tea room and a Japanese garden at our present site in the late Meiji Period (the late 19th century). Utilizing this heritage, "Kourakusou" was initially established as a hotel and restaurant business, which was about 60 years ago. Since then, we have been maintaining the tea room and the 600-tsubo *garden that provide a quaint and gracious atmosphere. Currently serving as a
Ryotei
high-class Japanese restaurant, "Kourakusou" is proud to offer authentic Japanese cuisine while preserving a long tradition that dates back to the times of our founder, Kauemon Yano. *One
tsubo
is 3.3 square meters.
All of our guest rooms face the Japanese garden, allowing guests in any room to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. We have two types of rooms available: Regular rooms for two or more guests and tatami rooms, Ozashiki for four or more guests. We also have a large room available for a group of up to 20 guests. We look forward to serving you on any special occasions.
